Never Stop Learning – Especially As A Marketer

As the incredibly wise Gary Vaynerchuck once said, “If you aren’t constantly learning you are dead”. While this may be somewhat extreme, this idea is extremely applicable to many walks of life – especially digital marketing.

In today’s world of rapidly evolving technology, it is extremely important for marketing teams to not only keep learning and testing new ideas, but for companies as a whole to understand what the power of learning really means. Social media has created a means of communication between customers and brands that didn’t exist a mere 10 years ago. Brands now have the immense opportunity to interact directly with their customers in real-time, but many don’t invest the time and effort required to learn about the technologies the enable this to happen! For not learning could pigeonhole your brand as competitors continue to grow.

So what are the three most important ways that your brand can use social media as an effective learning tool?

First, it is extremely important to learn from your customers. What do they like about what your brand has to say? Through social media, customer service has changed drastically as it has given brands the ability to hear what their customers are saying in real time. As Bill Gates once said, “your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning.” These are the people that will give you the greatest amount of insight about your brand. Learn from them and gain insight about ways that you can improve your business, as this is some of the most important feedback you can gain about your company.

Second, learn what your customers are talking about. What are their interests? What are they posting about and who are they engaging with on a regular basis? Learn what they like and don’t like by checking out your loyal followers social channels. This is a great way to focus and learn more about what content you should be posting.

Last, continue to learn what is going on in the social media / digital space. A brand that never learns can not grow. It is vital to constantly evolve, change and learn what is going on in the always changing digital marketing world. Staying up to date by learning about the latest digital marketing trends is one of the most important things you can do for your brand. It sounds like simple advice, but is much harder to actually do regularly. Outlets like Hubspot, Buffer and the KDMedia blog are excellent places to constantly learn about what is going on in this space. They are led by people who spend their days keeping up with digital trends, so why not learn from them!

At the end of the day, if we don’t keep learning, nothing will be fresh and exciting anymore, and no one wants that! Schedule out a time in your day, whether it be first thing in the morning or at the end of the day, to read a few new articles and learn a few new things. This will become a fun routine to keep your knowledge fresh and your value in marketing high. That is the most important thing you could do for not only your business but for yourself as a marketer.
